An overnight lifetime journey

From the top:

I don't remember when I became fascinated by makeup but it was pretty early on. I suppose my earlier memory of makeup dabbling was in kindergarten (yes, kindergarten) when my older sisters dolled me up and I kissed the neighbor boy on the cheek. It's weird to say this but at the time, I think I felt sexy, even if I didn't know what that feeling was at only 4 or 5 years of age.

Having older sisters certainly helped encourage my love of makeup. But after meeting Joe, I spent the last few years becoming comfortable with my face without makeup. I have been extremely blessed to have pretty clear skin. It's not oily, it's not dry. I moisturize regularly and only cleanse with a Dove beauty bar.

But a few weeks ago, I found this beauty blogger on YouTube and I fell in love with her videos. She is fairly new to beauty blogging but I began experimenting with my hair because I was inspired by her ashy blonde hair. A week or so ago, I started looking for more beauty bloggers on YouTube and stumbled upon oodles of MUA. I binged tutorials and videos like it was Netflix and new season of OITNB just premiered. In a future post I will list and link to my top 3 or 5 beauty bloggers but for now I just want to talk about how my routine has changed pretty much over night.

So prior to this epiphany that makeup techniques have evolved and I can learn and experiment and play, I rarely spent more than 20 minutes on my face and hair. Now that I have dealt with my self conscious issues regarding my face (we aren't going to talk about my body,) I can play and create til my hearts content.

I have only just begun to dig into new things. Contouring and highlighting are two things that I am most interested in, as well as perfecting my eye-shadow application. Since it is the holiday season, I have the privilege of being able to buy myself things for Christmas. This year, I have invested about $70 in new products. A record haul for me. I chose two of the more affordable brands to start with for two reasons. The first reason is that the two brands I've chosen are cruelty free. This is important to me. The other reason is that since I'm new to the game, I don't want to invest a lot of money in high end products when I am still learning how to use things.

Up first is my BH Cosmetics order. It should be arriving on Tuesday and it includes Carli Bybel's 14 color palette. (Hint: She is currently my favorite BB.)Also in this order is a set of brushes. It's a basic kit and it may not be the best quality, I just don't want any fallout and it has really great reviews. So color palette, brushes, a brow trio, and a beauty blender. I am going to do a live unboxing on Instagram. This is my first live video and I'm nervous as hell but also giddy because I can't wait to try this stuff out.

My second order is from e.l.f. That order includes the basics that I need. Primer, setting spray, concealer for contouring. A fun white eyeliner, a highly reviewed baked highlighter, an eye kit that includes 6 shadows and a primer. There is also a lipstick in a pretty pinky nude color. It was seriously a dollar. There was a pan of product that was just called shimmer with brush. Eighty cents. It's ridiculous.

As of today, I just received a gift card for Target so I am going to see if I can find a way to get to the store. I already bugged my roommate about it yesterday (I'm exaggerating) but I don't want to push my luck. Plus he's not feeling well today so I may just have to wait. I want to pick up some more foundation, mascara, maybe some lashes ?!?!?!?!?!, primer, and a lipstick.

My next post will be a review of the products I've purchased as well as how I am coming along as far as learning to use them properly. I'm super excited to start and share this journey. Talk to you all next week!!! 😉😉😉😉😉
